Keygan's key caps have been stolen right off his keyboard, and to top it all off they're trapped in a maze now! They'll have to buy back their keys in order to escape!

Controls:

Use mouse to purchases keys, hover for a tooltip description.

Once a key is purchased you can use the corresponding keyboard key to control Keygan. For example, after using your mouse to purchase the 'D' key, you can press 'D' (on your actual keyboard) to move right.

If the tooltips aren't working for you, here's the list of keys with special abilities:

The A Key allows the player to move left
The D Key allows the player to move right
The W Key allows the player to jump
The Q Key allows the player to dash left
The E Key allows the player to dash right
The F Key allows the player to open chests and perform similar interactions
The S Key allows the player to crouch through thin platforms
The J Key allows the player to shoot their hand cannon
The K Key allows the player to wall cling and jump

About the Game & the Jam:

I made this game in two weeks for PIGSquad's June 2024 Summer Slow Jam!

The themes were: "Resource Management" & "Wait, that's a Resource?"

The initial idea was to add more resource management elements, where the player could lease out unused keys for passive income, and then the game would spiral out in a Universal Paperclips fashion, but the scope of the jam forced me to cut most of the more Resource Management-focused ideas and double down on the platforming.

Most of the art and sounds are designed by me, and I'm pretty happy with how everything turned out. Not only is this one of the first-solo games I've made to have an actual fleshed-out ending, but there's actually even a second, hidden ending to the game!

In case I update this in the future, v0.1.2 is the version that was submitted for the Jam, and I'll try to keep that download-able going forward regardless of updates.

Version History

  • v0.1.3 -- Fix an issue where 'space' could sometimes cause the game to pause without an indicator
  • v0.1.2 -- Initial public version (submitted to jam)

Wow I love this concept, this is very creative! This seems like a very fun game to speedrun, I see you've even added a timer
Great job!
